Derek Cook – West Texas
Trial Lawyer
Born and raised in Wichita Falls, Derek Cook is a seasoned trial attorney with deep Texas roots and a passion for courtroom advocacy. From the time he was a young child watching re-runs of Matlock with his grandfather, Derek knew he wanted to be an attorney. He earned his bachelor’s degree in History with a Pre-Law focus from UT Arlington and his J.D. from Baylor Law School, where he sharpened his litigation skills in the renowned Practice Court program.
Derek began his legal career in Midland, handling complex litigation and appeals involving oil and gas, commercial disputes, land title issues, personal injury, and debt collection. He has successfully tried multiple jury trials — from high-stakes commercial and energy cases to employment law disputes.
A former President of the Midland County Bar Association and a past Director for District 16 of the State Bar of Texas, Derek is also deeply committed to public service. He’s been recognized for his pro bono work, leadership with Midland Teen Court, and advocacy for those facing addiction and mental health challenges — a cause he supports by openly sharing his own recovery story. Derek is also a frequent CLE speaker and published legal writer, continuing to serve his profession and his West Texas community with integrity and grit.
